BIOPAP®’s sustainability journey is an integral and foundational part of its history, its way of doing business, and the decisions it has made, including the choice to become a Benefit Corporation (Società Benefit).
BIOPAP® has always been characterized by its natural strategic orientation toward ethical business relations, its commitment to the community, and its promotion of innovation as a tool for sustainability—factors and behaviors that demonstrate a business ethic that goes well beyond the mere observance of legal requirements.
“With the transition to a Benefit Corporation, we intend to contribute to building a community oriented toward environmentally and socially sustainable development. This reflects our long-term vision and our commitment to creating value for the entire community and fostering a positive supply chain,” said Maria Teresa Brassiolo, Co-founder and Managing Director of BIOPAP®.
The innovative legal framework of the Benefit Corporation, made possible by Italian legislation, involves an analysis of the company’s core values, the definition of the Common Benefit, and an amendment to the corporate bylaws with specific commitments regarding governance, purpose, and reporting. “For these reasons, we preferred the transformation into a Benefit Corporation over voluntary B Corp certification. We believe this represents a stronger and more long-lasting commitment that better reflects our vision of the company,” stated Filippo Rossi, Managing Director and Co-founder.
The preparation and publication of the Impact Report are part of the obligations established by Italian regulations for Benefit Corporations, consistent with BIOPAP’s strategic guidelines: it is an act that both highlights and evaluates the activities carried out and, at the same time, provides a moment of shared awareness for the entire organization. The Report includes specific in-depth analyses covering: the common benefit objectives as part of the company’s strategic orientation, the activities carried out each year, and the assessment derived from the B Impact Assessment (https://bcorporation.eu). The BIA is the international reference standard used to evaluate five different areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. Italian regulations require an annual review of the BIA, which is then integrated into the Impact Report.
The Impact Report also presents an overview of the company’s history, vision, and values, as well as the ethical principles and policies to which BIOPAP adheres.
BIOPAP wishes to share the results of its continuous commitment to ESG matters: the actions taken each year, the goals set, and its ongoing pursuit of continuous improvement.
“The transition to a Benefit Corporation represents a natural step for BIOPAP® and aims to serve as an active example and testimony to promote and rediscover the commitment that every company must have toward society and the environment. Thanks to all the shareholders who approved this pathway, to the team at Askesis Società Benefit Srl, and to all colleagues and collaborators who actively participated in the meetings and who share, embody, and nurture this spirit every day.”
